Performing Songwriter was founded in 1993 by Lydia Hutchinson out of the guest bedroom of her little condo. For 16 years and 118 issues it remained independent and had absolutely no outside funding; it was completely supported by advertisers and the community it served. In June of 2009 Hutchinson decided it was time to publish the last issue while it was at its peak, and clear the way for the next chapter in this most incredible journey.

Performing Songwriter's mission has always been to validate the art, career and historical importance of songwriters, and the impact their contributions make in our lives. It has connected music makers with music lovers, and provided a place for the creative community to meet, feel a sense of belonging and find inspiration.
