National Guitar Workshop Songwriting Summit
July 5-10, 2008

National Guitar Workshop presents the inaugural NGW Songwriting Summit in Nashvile, Saturday, July 5 through Thursday, July 10.  Sponsored by Performing Songwriter, the summit—held at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music—is dedicated to all aspects of songwriting. Morning sessions will focus on the creativity and craft of writing including:  melody and harmony, lyric writing, form, and jumpstarting the creative process.  Students will work in solo and group writing sessions and will be mentored by individual members of the NGW Songwriting faculty.  Afternoon sessions will begin with a master class, followed by performance seminars and evening "song swaps."  New performers will learn about working with audiences and venues, while seasoned players will be coached on developing showmanship and individual style.   Among the summit's special guests will be Lisa Loeb (#1 single "Stay [I Missed You]") and Grammy-honored songwriter Robert Lee Castleman ("The Lucky One," "Like Red on a Rose").

All summit students are eligible to enter the NGW/Performing Songwriter magazine Songwriting Contest, which will be adjudicated by industry professionals during a seminar on July 9.  Grand Prize includes feature coverage in Performing Songwriter magazine and on the PS and NGW websites, a Martin 000C-16RGTE Acoustic/Electric guitar, and a NGW scholarship.  The preliminary round of the contest will take place at the Bluebird Cafe, offering performing songwriters a coveted opportunity to play at the world-famous listening room.
