Trey Anastasio
At this point in time I’m only now discovering the joys of singing. Maybe it’s because these songs are so personal. The guitar parts are starting to feel second-nature. Guitar-playing has been my form of communication for so long, it’s been really interesting to fall in love with singing. I guess you just eventually get to that point. Your whole goal as a musician is to communicate. My wife calls me the “relentless communicator.” You can try to do that with a guitar—and I worked very hard on that over the years—but maybe the reason it eventually comes down to songwriting and singing is that that’s the direct path to the heart.
