Songwriting is never the same process, ever. That’s the humbling part. It’s magic—one minute it’s not there, and the next minute it’s there. That said, it begins with some type of inspiration. There has to be something that affects me in a way that’s strong enough to make me want to say something about it. Maybe it’s an emotion I personally have, or a feeling that talking with somebody has given me, or something I see looking out the window, or even a commercial I’ve seen on TV. Whatever it is, it’s a catalyst that sparks an emotion, and then that emotion takes over. At that point, words somehow come or music somehow comes, and I’m just trying to get it out of there.”
