This small-group—limited to 12—workshop of Beth’s is designed to help you tap into the power of singing with least effort from the natural tone of your speaking voice.
Beth presents her unique and inspiring style of teaching in much the same way she approaches creativity itself. She will explore the art of singing from the center of your most powerful effortless center of communication. Your speaking voice! With no more effort than speaking, we will open up to new ways to perceive the delivery a song. Whether you plan to make it to American Idol or you just want to sing the clearest vocal on your work-tapes that show your song when you play it or a demo singer, this is a great class even for those who don’t consider themselves singers. It’s a wonderful way to take singing to another level. In addition, we’ll be learning to dive for melody using the voice during the writing process.
The workshop will be held at Scarritt Bennett Center and Ocean Way Studios on Music Row, which is only 2 blocks away so easy to walk from Scarritt-Bennett campus.
We will kick things off on the evening of Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 with dinner with Beth at a Nashville home. The workshop will include the experience of recording a demo of your newfound vocal skills in a world-class studio, the chance to perform in a live sound setting, and a closing night dinner together followed by a listening party of your recordings.
Beth is knowledgeable about the human voice and provides clear instruction on how to achieve maximum vocal quality. After working with Beth during the Vocal Presence Workshop, I was able to project my voice naturally and with ease while singing, producing rich tones I never knew I had.
Beth will work with you through three basic vocal testing grounds:
- Day One will be at Scarritt Bennett Center and will be focused on singing acoustically and finding the sweet spot in your voice in an unplugged situation.
- Then we’ll head over to Ocean Way Studios and work in the studio setting, learning to work with a microphone, headphones and communicating with an engineer. Each person will record a song and you’ll be able to take that demo with you!
- From there you’ll have the opportunity to adapt what you’ve learned to a live performance environment, from sound check to the spotlight and ending with a fun evening performance for the class.
Also, we will have a world-class guitarist with us on Friday and Saturday if you need someone to accompany you on guitar for your recording and live performance!

Cost
THE COST is $1,995 per student, with a $795 deposit ($395 is non-refundable) upon registration. This includes three days of workshops (Thursday/Friday/Saturday), a Wednesday evening dinner in a Nashville home with Beth, lunches Friday and Saturday at the studio, dinner at the studio on Friday night, a guitarist available to accompany anyone who needs a guitarist during the recording or live performance days, and closing dinner and class performance Saturday evening.

THIS WORKSHOP is limited to a group of 12 students.
It’s a small and supportive group of all levels and ages, and each person will not only learn from Beth’s lessons, but also by listening to the vocal work that each of your classmates will have.
Lodging
FOR LODGING, the most convenient and economical option is staying on campus at Scarritt Bennett where rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked directly through them. If you’d rather stay at a hotel, these are within walking distance or short drive to Scarritt Bennett/Ocean Way: Embassy Suites, Best Western Music Row, Hilton Home2 Suites, and Hampton Inn. And there are plenty of Air BnB’s around the area of Music Row/Vanderbilt/Belmont.
Refund Policy
YOUR DEPOSIT OF $795 will secure one of the 12 spots, and $395 of that is non-refundable. You’ll be invoiced for the remaining $1200 on Jan. 1, 2026 that will be due no later than Jan. 15, 2026 to keep your spot. If you are fully paid and cancel by Feb. 1, 2026 you’ll be refunded $1,600. After Feb. 15 there is no guaranteed refund unless we fill the spot. If the spot is filled by March 15, 2025, then you’ll still receive your $1,600 refund. If you cancel after March 15 there are no refunds.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don’t play an instrument?
You don’t need to worry about that at all—except for Suzy’s and Matt’s workshops, playing an instrument isn’t required. The focus in the writing workshops is on telling your story in a way that connects with listeners, and if an instrument is needed the teacher can always help out with that.
Are the classes for all levels?
The songwriting classes are for all levels of writers, whether you’ve only journaled, written poetry, or are someone who actually performs and has recorded your songs. It’s designed to be three days of inspiration from the teacher, legendary guests, or each other as you support the efforts and bravery of your classmates.
There are three classes—Suzy’s performance class at the Bluebird, Matt’s melody master class, and Jonatha’s studio workshop—for alums who’ve already been through other Performing Songwriter classes. These three are by invitation based on if you’re ready and able to perform your songs, are proficient on your instrument, and if you have songs finished and ready to record.
What’s involved in song feedback?
Each person will perform a work-in-progress song in front of the class as the teacher listens and finds a teachable moment that everyone can learn from so more songwriting tools can be added to the toolbox. Feedback is strictly from the teacher, though, and the class is just invited into it as listeners — this keeps it safe and on track. You’ll also have a private 15 minute 1-on-1 with the teacher where you can talk about anything you’d like or get feedback on something you’re working on.
What does a workshop day look like?
The actual schedule for the workshop will be sent to you when we’re one week out. But in general, the mornings are for input — lessons from the teachers, song breakdowns, prompt exercises, etc. Then a lunch break for a couple of hours when 1-on-1s are also scheduled. Afternoons consist of the song feedback sessions with the whole class and any guests we might have pop in. The days start around 9:30 and end at 6:00, except for the last evening which goes through dinner.
